MTA CELEBRATES EARTH DAY WITH FREE RIDES ON TRANSIT

Free Trips Offered on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 for Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, Commuter Bus, MARC and Mobility

Each year, Earth Day serves as a global reminder of the importance of protecting our planet. This Earth Day, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration proudly joins the global community in celebrating the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living. For the second year in a row, the Maryland Transit Administration will offer a day of free transit on Earth Day tomorrow, Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

“Earth Day is a timely reminder of the urgent need to protect our planet for future generations, and public transit plays a pivotal role in that effort,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “We hope offering free transit on Earth Day inspires more people to choose transit as a sustainable alternative to driving alone.”

Whether traveling for work, school, healthcare or recreation, public transportation offers an environmentally friendly and convenient way to get around. Small changes, like taking the bus or train, can lead to big changes for the environment. The agency encourages regular riders and first-time riders to take advantage of this opportunity and ride for free on any of our services including Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train, Commuter Bus and Mobility.

Riders can easily plan their trips by visiting mta.maryland.gov or using the Transit app for route and schedule information. By choosing transit, riders also help reduce traffic congestion and vehicle emissions in the region.

Our planet. Our future

Thank you.
