MTA’s Fall 2025 Service Adjustments
These changes are tentative as MTA seeks public input
MTA’s Fall 2025 Annual Service Plan proposes service changes for Fall 2025 that adjust core bus routes to increase access and equity across the system, improve reliability and travel time, and implement a strategic vision. MTA is constantly monitoring reliability, traffic congestion, and ridership, and will continue to make minor adjustments to service to adjust for continually changing ridership and traffic conditions. MARYLAND TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION UPDATES FARE COLLECTION SYSTEM WITH NEW BUS FAREBOXES
Agency to Phase Out CharmCard, Transition Riders to CharmPass Mobile App
The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will begin replacing its legacy fare collection equipment with new, modern fareboxes on all 825 buses operating on the agency’s local bus routes. Installation of the new fareboxes will begin this summer, with 200 buses upgraded per month, and full transition to new payment systems to be complete by the end of the year. To support the new farebox integration, CharmCard®, the agency’s 15-year-old “tap and go” fare payment option, will be retired. Riders are encouraged to transition to CharmPass, the Maryland Transit Administration’s mobile transit pass app. Additional information can be found here.
MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ANNOUNCES $1.25 MILLION IN TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT GRANTS
Local Communities Receive Awards to Advance Mixed-use Development Projects Near Transit Stations
The Maryland Department of Transportation today announced the award of $1.25 million in grant funding as part of the initial phase of the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Capital Grant and Revolving Loan Fund which the Department launched in February 2025. The grant program will help advance development projects near transit stations that will spur economic activity and increase connectivity in communities across Maryland.
