Presentation: “A look ahead at the (new!) Baltimore Regional Transit Commission and the TRAIN Commission’s 2024 workplan”

Synopsis: The Baltimore region has historically been the only large metropolitan area in the nation with a transit system operated by a state agency without a board or commission oversight. That changed last year when the Governor and General Assembly created the Baltimore Regional Transit Commission (BRTC). With sixteen (16) members appointed by the Governor, the Mayor of Baltimore City and County Executives from Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard Counties, the BRTC is intended to provide both advocacy for and accountability from MDOT-MTA on the planning, construction, operation, and funding of our regional transit network.  The BRTC’s first meeting is February 2.

The Transportation Revenue and Infrastructure Needs (TRAIN) Commission was created to review, evaluate, and make recommendations on the prioritization and funding of Maryland transportation projects.  It submitted its interim report in January and its work continues through 2024 with a final report due in January 2025.
